Bijan Sabet took up the post in Prague about a year ago, presenting his credentials as U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic in February 2023. The son of immigrants, this former tech executive and venture capitalist brings to his diplomatic assignment deep experience in business and business development. A co-founder and leading figure at Spark Capital, he has helped many tech start-ups grow into large multinationals. He has left his mark on brands such as Twitter, Slack and Discord. In line with the overall focus of this issue of TRADE NEWS, we spoke mainly about California, where Mr. Sabet worked in the tech industry and as an investor for twenty years, ten of which directly in Silicon Valley.

Částečně je to nedostatkem materiálu a částečně nedostatkem pracovních sil. Očekávané uvolnění pracovního trhu se nekonalo, nezaměstnanost je v mnohých regionech stále na minimu. Ocenění Ambasador kvality ČR v podnikatelském sektoru získala společnost Drylock Technologies, ve veřejném sektoru si titul odnáší Magistrát města Plzně. V národním kole Mezinárodní ceny inovací Quality Innovation Award byly oceněny projekty ze strojírenství, gastronomie nebo environmentu, projekty již realizované i ty, které mají potenciál teprve se uplatnit. Ceny vyhlašované Českou společností pro jakost byly předány na listopadové konferenci Dny kvality. Všem vítězům gratulujeme!

“Business models must adapt to market developments,” argues Ludvík Machala, founder and CEO of ProSpánek. When the golden era of direct sales through call centres was coming to an end, he decided on an ambitious plan to build a retail chain that would offer comprehensive solutions for healthy sleeping. They did it first in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, later in Poland and Hungary, and most recently, Serbia joined the group in 2022. “Serbia was a logical choice for us when looking for further expansion eastward. It is a country with a rapidly developing economy open to the whole world. And we are always interested in potential.”

Hlavním úspěchem programu EU je poskytnutí impozantní garance ve výši 18,87 miliardy eur v rámci 175 projektů, což v lednu 2024 umožnilo mobilizaci dalších 372 miliard eur z privátních a veřejných rozpočtů. V důsledku těchto investic vznikly v České republice programy, jako je Záruka Inostart, společný projekt Národní rozvojové banky (NRB) a České spořitelny poskytující podporu malým, středním podnikům a OSVČ.

It is an interesting fact that Berislav Vekić, the Serbian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, is also a renowned surgeon and university professor, who has raised several young and promising surgeons in Serbia. He also boasts a great career in healthcare management. From his own experience, he argues that medicine and diplomacy have many common grounds and synergies, which has been confirmed in practice by many (not only) Serbian diplomats.
